 Himachal Pradesh is a beautiful hill state in India, nestles in north-west region of western Himalayas. The literal meaning of Himachal Pradesh is In the lap of Himalayas.

The history of the area that now constitutes Himachal Pradesh dates back to the time when the Indus valley civilisation flourished between 2250 and 1750 BCE.Tribes such as the Koilis, Halis, Dagis, Dhaugris, Dasa, Khasas, Kinnars and Kirats inhabited the region from pre-historic era. During the Vedic period, several small republics known as “Janapada” existed which were later conquered by the Gupta Empire.

The British territories in the hill came under British Crown after Queen Victoria’s proclamation of 1858. Himachal Pradesh became a Union Territory on 1 November 1956.

The state is known to be abundant in natural beauty From vast tracts of high-altitude Trans-Himalayan desert to dense green deodar forests, from apple orchards to cultivated terraces, from snowcapped high Himalayan mountain ranges to snow fed lakes and gushing rivers.

Shimla distict is surrounded by the districts of Mandi, Kullu Kinnaur, Solan and Sirmaur of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla, the capital of the state, is perched at 2,200 mtrs in the lower Himalayan Mountains. This capital hill station is enveloped by pine, deodar, oak and rhododendron forests. Snow-capped Majestic Himalaya nicely visible from the entire region. Shimla also is a very popular holiday-retreat and is well-known for its Victorian architecture. About a distance of 64 Km in Narkanda there is appeal orchard. It is said that the name of the place comes after Shyamali Devi, a re-embodiment of the awful Goddess Kali. While heavy woolen garments are essential in winter, in Summer the temperature is mild and light woolen or cotton serve the purpose.Manali (2050 m) in Kullu district, at the northern part of the Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh, is a popular tourist destination of the State. Stands on the Beas river this hill station is famous for its wonderful summer and a magical, snow-covered winter.  Manali is the most favour tourist spot of Himachal Pradesh. There are small and large mountain valleys and a large number of apple gardens. Visit Himadridevi temple, Banihar, Nature park, Buddha Mandir, Himachal mesuem, club house, the temple of Bashistha , Manumaharshi Mandir etc. Maali also has a hot water plant.
