This small sanctuary of 20.98 sq km in Jorhat district surrounded by tea gardens houses stretched grasslands full of wildlife. The area is reputed for its rich biodiversity. The name of this charming sanctuary is given after the only Ape (Hoolock Gibbon) found in India.
The mammals found in this sanctuary are Elephant, Leopard, Tiger, Pangolin, Assamese macaque, Pig tailed macaque, Rhesus macaque, Stump tailed macaque, Capped langur, Slow loris, Jungle cat, Indian civet, Giant squirrel, Barking deer, Sambar, Wild pig and Squirrels.
Birds like Osprey, Hill Myna, Kalij pheasant, Indian Pied Horn Bill etc are seen here.
Reptiles include Indian Python, Common Monitor Lizard, Indian Tent Turtle and Indian Cobra.
