Jorhat, regarded as the Cultural face of Assam and a fast growing town of the North East India. The town is located on the banks of the River Bhogdoi and was the capital of of the Ahom Dynasty since 1794. Prior to 1794 the capital of the Dynasty was at Sibsagar.
In 1817 Jorhat faced several attacks from the Burmese who dameged the city very badly. During the British Rule this town recovered from the Burmese destructions.
Jorhat is famous for tea industry and a transit point to the tourists heading to like Majuli, Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary, Kaziranga National Park.

Jorhat has its own airport at a distance of 5 km from the city. Jorhat is well connected by air, with dGuwahati and Kolkata. 

RAIL

Mainline is the nearest mainline Rail station. Jorhat r is on the Farketing-Mariyani branch line. Bus services to Mariyani.

ROAD

Guwahati, Tezpur, Sibsagar, Tinsukia, Dimapur and Itanagar, Kaziranga is served by buses from Jorhat.

For Majuli:  Reach Niyamati Ghat and cross the river by ferry-boat or launch to Majuli.
