Jamnagar is one of the oldest and densely populated cities of Gujrat and it is still famous for the variety of birds that people will come across in this city. The Rajput king Jamraul established this city in the year 1540. The swamps scattered all around the city is the assembly of the various breeds of bird.
On the centre of the city is the Lakhota Lake which is the residence of several aquatic birds. Here tourists will easily come across Gal, Spot-build Duck, Toughted, Pintail Duck, Northern Sovellar and various other breeds. It is really wondering to see these numerous types of birds residing in such a populated place.
From the city while going towards Bedi Port tourists will come to see groups of Flamingo, Pelican, Shovellar, Pintail, etc in the Dichra Lake. Near the Jamnagar railway station where the drainage waterfalls, people will see many Waders searching for food.
15kms away from the city is the Khijariya Bird Sanctuary which is like a heaven for bird lovers. Though it’s only a 6sqkms bird sanctuary but it’s the home of 257 breeds of birds. This sanctuary is divided into two parts – Dhanuv and Jambuda. Tourists will come to see Greater and Lesser Flamingo, Pelican, various types of Crane, Painted Stork, Black Necked Stork, White Ibis, Eurasian Spoonbill, Greater Crested Grib and various other types of bird. Tourists will need a car to see around the sanctuary.
The Jamnagar airport is at a distance of 10 kilometers from the main city. There is regular air connectivity with Mumbai.RAIL
