Shimla distict is surrounded by the districts of Mandi, Kullu Kinnaur, Solan and Sirmaur of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla, the capital of the state, is perched at 2,200 mtrs in the lower Himalayan Mountains. This capital hill station is enveloped by pine, deodar, oak and rhododendron forests. Snow-capped Majestic Himalaya nicely visible from the entire region. Shimla also is a very popular holiday-retreat and is well-known for its Victorian architecture. About a distance of 64 Km in Narkanda there is appeal orchard. 
It is said that the name of the place comes after Shyamali Devi, a re-embodiment of the awful Goddess Kali. 
While heavy woolen garments are essential in winter, in Summer the temperature is mild and light woolen or cotton serve the purpose.

Cart Road:

It is a good place to view the seven majestic hills of Shimla. Here Lakkar Bazaar is a good place to buy some handicrafts and other souvenirs.


This gives a magnificent view of the ice-covered mountain peaks of Shimla. From here the tourists may visit Tudor library and the Christ Church.

Jakhu Temple:

The Jakhu Temple is also having beautiful scenic beauty located above the town Jakhoo Hills at an height of 2,2445 km. This is the highest point of Shimla and is one of the most beautiful tourists destinations. The Jakhu hills is known for its narrow paths and offers enjoyable walking.

ST. Michel's Cathedral: 

This is a church which is dressed with stone having fine stained glass of a cruciform design. Also visit State Museum (3km), Sankot mochan (7 km), Tara Devi (11 km), Priospect hill and Kamna Devi ( 6 km)


Every year in the month of May/June international Shimla summer festival is organised by district adminstration for the attraction of the tourists. Cultural activities are the major attractions.     Ice-skating competitions organised at Shimla for whole some entertainment for the tourists and locals . Ice-skating normally begins in early December and carries on to February.   World Tourism Day also celebrated at Shimla.   

The airport is at Jubbar-Hatti, 23 km away. The airort gets flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Pathankot, Chandigarh etc.

Toursits also can use Chandigarh airport for better connectivity. 


Shimla is connected to Kalka by an enenchanting narrow gauge railway line where even a quaint rail car ply.
