Jammu is one of the three administrative divisions (other two being Srinagar & Ladakh) within Jammu and Kashmir, the northernmost state in India. Jammu a land of grand ancient temples, and beautiful palaces nestled against the backdrop of the snow-capped Pir Panjal Mountains. The city is the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu is the only region in the state of Jammu and Kashmir that has a Hindu majority population. Most of Jammu's Hindus are Dogras, Kashmiri Pandits, migrants from Kotli and Mirpur and Punjabi Hindus. Many Sikhs are migrants from Pakistani Controlled Kashmir (from areas like Muzaffarabad and Punch sector areas occupied by Pakistan during 1947).
Paragliding has been introduced at Sanasar and Jammu. Equipment is available on Hire from tourist office in Jammu city. May-June and September October are best suited for paragliding. Other aero sports like Parasailing and Hot-air ballooning are also becoming operational shortly.
Lohri : Lohri also known as Makar Sankranti heralds the end of extreme winter.
Bahu Mela : A major festival is held at the KaliTemple inside the premises of Bahu Fort.
Spring Festival/Baisakhi : Celebrated to mark the harvest, it is considered auspicious for marriages. Devotees go for a ritual dip in lakes and rivers. Numerous fairs add to the festivities.
Jammu Festival : Jammu Festival is the most important festival of the Jammu region. It is celebrated on a grand scale on the eve of Baisakhi. It takes place from 13th to 15th April. Events depicting local culture, heritage, music adds to the fun.
Jammu airport has many flights from Delhi and Leh.RAIL
Jammu is well connected by train to points south and east. Jammu Tawi is an important railhead of the Norther Railways serving the Jammu and Kashmir State.ROAD
