Lies on the Berach River, a tributary of the Banas, Chittor served as a capital city to the Sisodia clans of Mewar Rajputs from the 7th century to the 16th. Chittaurgarh is the symbol of Rajput spirit, valour, pride and romance. It is marked with heroism and sacrifice.
Allaudin Khilji invaded the city in 1303 A.D to get Queen Padmini of Chittaur. Queen Padmini and the women of the court sacrificed themselves in a pyre of fire rather than submit to anybody. This ultimate sacrifice (Jauhar) state the fiery spirit of the Rajputs of those days. The city stands strewn with monuments and battlements as evidence of patriotism in the medieval times.
