The Keoladeo Ghana National Park (also known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary), one of the best bird watching sites of Asia, is located at Bharatpur in Rajasthan, India. This wonderful avifauna park hosts thousands of birds of around 350 different types. The park was declared a protected sanctuary in 1971 and later mentioned as World Heritage Site.
Keoladeo Ghana National Park is a man-made wetland created 250 years ago. Maharaja Suraj Mal transformed the shallow depression formed by the confluence of River Gambhir and River Banganga into a reservoir. Flooding of water created shallow wetland ecosystem which suits to the birds.
The 350 species of fauna in this Bird Sanctuary combines 42 species of raptors and 9 species of owls, 34 species of mammals, 22 species of reptiles, 8 species of amphibians, 57 species of fishes and 71 species of butterflies, more than 30 species of dragonflies and more than 30 species of spiders.
The Park opens from sunrise to sunset around the year.
