The popular pilgrimage centre of Nathdwara is situated on the bank of the river Banas. The sacred Vaishnava temple devoted to Lord Srinath is the point of main attraction here. The 12th Century idol of Lord Srinath is made from a single piece of black marble. It is said that the revered statue was first installed by Sri Vallabhacharya in a temple near Mathura, from where it was transported to Nathdwara to save it from Mughals.
