Aritar Lake (Lampokhari) is a relatively new tourist destination located, under Rongli sub division in East Sikkim. On a mountain top this idyllic spot is surrounded by dense forest. The region provides magnificent views of the Himalaya including Mount Kanchendzonga, Mount Makalu, Mount Pandim, Mount Sinoulchu, etc. Located on the historic Silk Route Aritar once was the entry point to for Tibet and Chinese.

Arital is still an offbeat tourist destination but interests are growing as it offers snow clad mountains, unspoiled lakes, forest areas, flower packed valleys, and botanically and zoologically rich surroundings. The region is an ideal place for leisure holiday, trekker, wildlife, ornithologist, adventure seekers, botanist, etc.

Nearby Arital there are few tourists’ spots like Zuluk, Jelep La Pass, Baba Dham, Nathang Valley, Baba Mandir, Kupup Lake, etc.

It is close to places like Pedong, Lava, Lolaygaon, Kalimpong of West Bengal and Gangtok, Rumtek, Jorethang and Namchi.



At an altitude of 4600 ft (1,400 m) it is the only lake with boating facility in Sikkim.

"Mangkhim", a Temple is located at a height of 6500 ft at "Maity Village" (Kheselakha) . Hattipailay is another virgin village where the visitors can see elephant footprints on rock.

There are some wonderful trek routes but they are all two to five days trip.

The nearest airport is Bagdogra, 155km. 


The nearest railway station is NJP (153 km). There are no direct transport services between NJP and Aritar. 


Aritar is easily accessible from the state capital, Gangtok, by road. The destination can be reached by taxis and rented cars from Gangtok, which is situated at a distance of 63 km.
