Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary: This National Park and Tiger Reserve is in the Nilgiri District, about 150 km from Coimbatore. The region region of Tamil Nadu is having the borders with the states of Karnataka and Kerala. The sanctuary is clustered into 5 ranges - Masinagudi, Thepakadu, Mudumalai, Kargudi and Nellakota.
The park is the home to various wild species conjesting with Indian elephant, Bengal Tiger, Gaur and Indian Leopard. There are at least 266 species of birds in the sanctuary, including critically endangered Indian White-rumped Vulture and long-billed vulture.
The Western Ghats, Nilgiri division (6,000 sq km), including Mudumalai National Park, is under deliberation by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site.
JUNGLE SAFARI :
The Jungle Safari allows people to come and experience rare animals living in their natural locale. Both vehicle safaris and elephant rides are obtainable through the Forest Department.
Timing: Morning - From 5.30 AM, evening - From 4 PM
ELEPHANT SAFARI: Duration 40 minutes.
Morning - 7 AM to 8.30 AM, Evening - 3.30 PM to 5 PM.
The nearest international airport is at Coimbatore (130 km).RAIL
Closest railway station, is at Ooty (67 km). The other nearby railway stations include Mysore (90 km), Coimbatore (130 km) and Erode (160 km) which are on the major broad gauge line served by trains from across the country.ROAD
The Sanctuary is well connected by National Highway. All buses plying from Mysore to Ooty stop at the Reception Centre at Theppakkadu.
