Haridwar is the nearest rail head to Gangotri - 248 Km.
Season: Late June till July & September till first week of October (Except Monsoon season).
Weather: Campsite at Kedartal can experience weather dipping to minus 5 degree Celsius and below. Day temperature remains pleasant and extremely windy. Expect some spell of snow-fall at Kedartal. It may rain heavily in trail from Gangotri till Kedarkhadak in monsoon season time

Permits: To be obtained from DFO, Forest Department at Gangotri. Have I.D proof of all trekkers available.
Guides and Porters: Guides and Porters can be hired from Uttarkashi or Dehradoon. Ponies are not allowed. Will require to hire High Altitude Porters.
This fascinating ten day trip takes one to Gangotri and onwards to one of the most picturesque high altitude lakes - theKedar tal (4912 mts). Observation the Greater Himalayan majestic peaks of Thaleysagar (6904 mts), Brigupanth (6772 mts) and Jogin Group of peaks. Experiance the fascinating reflection of these Snow capped peaks on the crystal clear water of the lake. Have a close view of the Kedar glacier the life source of Kedar Tal and river Kedarganga, a tributary of Bhagirathi. There is also an opportunity to witness a good range of high altitude fauna e.g. Bharal (blue sheep), Goral, Himalayan black bear and a great variety of birds. Though little bit tough, the trek is a life time achievement.
DAY 01. Uttarkasi - Gangotri: (3048 m/ 10,000 ft, Drive 95 km) - Overnight at Hotel.
Uttarkashi town, on the bank of Alkananda river, is the home of the late Acharya Pt. Chakradhar Joshi, a scholar in Astronomy and Astrology. The observatory established by Acharya is well equipped with two telescopes and many books.
Uttarkashi is also famous for its institute of mountaineering.
Gangotri is the place where the Goddess Ganga descended on Earth from Heaven..The shrine of Gangotri is situated at an elevation of 3200 m surrounded by Deodars (Cedar) and Chir (Pines). The original temple was constructed by the Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa.
It is believed that there is a natural Shivling submerged in the river and according to mythology, Lord Shiva sat when he received the Goddess Ganga in his matted locks.
A day's trek takes one to Gomukh, the source of the mighty Gange.
DAY 02. Gangotri to Bhoj kharak: (3989 m, 8 km, Trek 4 - 5 Hrs) - Overnight at Tent.
After breakfast trek to Bhoj Kharak. The steep ascent to Bhoj Kharak starts after leaving the camp. After an hour climb travers kedar gorge to reach Bhoj kharak. The entire trek is along Kedar Ganga through fir (cedus) and Bhoj (birch) trees. The bark of birch was used as paper for ancient manuscript in Inida.
Thoug a strenuous trek but beautiful meadows, and a grand view of the Bhrigupanth peak as a backdrop. The camping area is equally captivating and is located near a gushing stream surrounded by the meadow.
DAY 03. Bhoj Kharak to Kedar Kharak (3989 m, 4km, Trek 4 - 5 Hrs) - Overnight at Tent.
Now the tree line will be disappeared and trek through a long meadow with Bhrigupanth peak in backdrop. Arrive and camp near the bubbling stream in the meadow.
DAY 04. Kedar kharak to Kedartal (4750 m, 5 km, Trek 4 - 5 Hrs) - Overnight: Tent near lake.
Today the trek is very steep and through scree, rocks & loose boulders. After 3-4 hrs walking on difficult terrain we reach Kedartal. See the famed Kedar Tal lake and its indelible reflection of Thalay Sagar mountain. Experience and enjoy the majestic view of Massive Himalayan peaks flank the lake from all around.

DAY 05. Kedartal to Bhoj kharak - 09 km - 5 to 6 hrs, Overnight- Hotel.
Early morning witness the astonishing sunrise and its effect of colour on the peaks and lake. After breakfast trace your steps back to Bhoj Kharak.
down to Gangotri . Witness evening prayer at Gangotri temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganges.
DAY 06. Bhoj kharak to Gangotri (08 km - 4 to 5 hrs) - Overnight at Hotel.
DAY 07. Gangotri - Rishikesh Drive, Hotel.
