Spread over an area of 624.6 Sq. Km.., just next to the Nanda Devi peak (7816 mts) is the Nanda Devi National Park. It was established in 1980. Nanda Devi National Park is one of the most impressive wilderness areas in Garhwal Himalayas. It is situated in chamoli district of Garhwal Uttarnchal. A unique mix of flora and fauna is characteristic of this park. The park has been notified as the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The park area has an average altitude around 4500m to 5200m surounded by high mountains walls not lower than 17,000ft/5200m and towering peaks on all side. The only exception is the point where the Rishi Ganga which drains this great basin emerges to the West in one of the most terrific gorges in the world. . In this ring of mountains there are at least twelve peaks over 21,500ft/6500m including several famous names such as Dunagiri (7066m), Changbang (6864m), Kalanka (6931m), Rishi Pahar (6992m), Mangraon (6765m), Nanda Khat (6631m), Maiktoli (6803m), Mrigthuni (6655m), Trishul - I , II , III (7120m), Beathartoli Himal (6352m), Nanda Devi east (7434m), Nanda Devi main (7817m), Devisthan I, II (6529) and Hanuman (6070m) peaks are situated in the park.
Flora & Fauna in Nanda Devi National Park-
Presence of fir, birch, rhododendron and juniper enrich the floral system of the park. Bharal, Himalayan tahir, serow, goral, snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, brown bear, leopard, common langur, musk deer, brown dear, pheasant and others wild animals are found here. There are also 80 spices of birds including warblers, gresbreaks, rose finches, ruby throat.

The Trek Route:
DAY 1: Joshimath - Lata Village ( 2317 M) Spectacular journey by jeep to the roadhead near Lata Village. Trek to Lata village, 1.5 km from the roadhead. Visit Nanda devi Temple. Overnight in the village.
DAY 2: Lata Village - Lata Kharak (8.5 km, 3689 M) Get ready for an 7-8 hrs steep climb. The climb is strenous but extremely rewarding as the glimpses of the peaks are mesmerising. Lata Kharak is a plateau standing with peaks surrounding it. Overnight in Camp.
DAY 3: Lata Kharak - Dharansi Pass (4250 M) Get a morning view of massive snow-clad peaks all around, viz., Dronagiri, Nanda Gunthi and many more. The day will be another steep climbing day to Jhandi Dhar and Bagfyana Pass. From here the trail ascends and descends through the Narrow gorge of Satkul to Dharansi Pass. Overnight at Camp.
DAY 4: Dharansi Pass - Debrugheta - Dharansi Pass (4250 M) Trek through the Malthuni - Bethratoli Ridge's, Rani Kholi and Donidar and enjoy the outsanding beauty of deep Himalaya. The trail is a steep descent of about a kilometer to Debrugheta. Return to Dharansi Pass by late afternoon. Overnight at Camp.
DAY 5: Dharansi Pass - Hitoli Camp Site (11 km, 2900 M) From Jhandi Dhar a steep descent of 4.5 km to the Hitoli camp site. The trail is through thick forests of Rhododendron, Birch and Fir. Overnight at Camp.
DAY 6: Hitoli Campsite - Joshimath (8 km trek & 30 km drive, 1890 M) The trek takes us through the village of Tolma to the roadhead from where it is a 30 km drive to Joshimath. The trek is through thick forests. Overnight at in Hotel.
