Almora is a a picturesque hill station and district head quarters in the Kumaun region of Uttarakhand. Almora was the seat of power of the Chand Dynasty who ruled the land of Kumaon for almost one thousand years. Almora is famous for breathtaking panoramic view of Himalayas, its rich cultural heritage, unique handicrafts and magnificent wildlife.

Almora is an agricultural base and also a trade centre.

The Mall: The Mall of Almora is the hub of administrative activity. Parallel to the Mall is the market area, which is only open to pedestrian traffic. Above the Mall is the main temple complex with shrines dedicated to Nanda Devi and Lord Shiva. The temple of Nanda Devi, presiding deity of Almora is built in the typical Kumaoni style of stone temple architecture. The temple is named after the region’s highest peak "Nandadevi".

Chitai Temple: Chitai Temple is a  sacred temple, built in the memory of Gollu Devta, is situated 6kms from Almora at a place called Chitai.

FAIR & FESTIVAL IN ALMORA

Doonagiri mela  Doonagiri, noted for its ancient Durga Temple, is a pilgrim spot that attracts a large of pilgrims, during the fair days at Navratri in October. Kasar Devi Mela A fair is held twice a year, during winter and summer moths, in the picturesque and older part of the town. The fact that the great Swami Vivekananda came to Almora and gained enlightenment in a small cave at Kasar Devi adds the trivia to give a lot more significance to the place. Shrawan Mela, Jageshwar fair in July & August, Gananath Mela in October-November and Dwarahat Mela held in April are some other important festivities of the region.
