Kausani, amidst dense pine forest, at an elevation of 1890 m, is a picturesque hamlet in Almora dist of Uttarakhand state. A majestic row of snowcapped Himalayan peaks, over 300 kms. in length and expanse, sparkles against the blue sky. One can feel the touch of the snowy Himalayan peaks Trishul, Panchachuli, Nanda Ghunti and Chaukhamba from here. Below down the hills is the Gomti river rushing into the Katyuni valley.
Mahatma Gandhi spent some time here, while he was writing the book"Anashakti Yoga" a commentary on Bhagwat Gita. The "Anashakti Ashram"was founded here by his disciple Sarla Ben (Katherine Heilemen).
The Uttarayani Mela, the 10-day Dusshera festival and the fair held on Kartik Purnima are among the biggest festivals of the region.
