The Virgin Beauty – Arunachal Pradesh Part 8

We had come to know from our sources that the Bomdilla Monastery has some lodging facilities. Normally people live in the town area, which is good but slightly congested market area. The monastery is on top of a hill giving a magnificent view of the small hill town. This is another place to relax in the lap of nature where you get to see the illustrious landscape, mountains wearing a scarf of snow, apple groves, pleasant weather, affectionate people and Buddhist Monasteries.

At a height of 8.5K, Bomdila is the Headquarter of West Kameng District and home of the Aka(Hrusso), Miji(Sajalong), Monpa, Sherdukpen, and Bogun(Khawas) tribes. Craft centre, Monasteries, Ethnographic Museum, Emporium etc. are worth visiting. One can also watch various snow clad mountain peaks from Bomdila including a bird’s eye view of Kangto and Gorichen Peaks, the highest peak of the state.

The township being the District headquarters naturally has all the modern amenities including Banks, ATMs, and STD Booths strewn around along with a plethora of Government Offices & Institutions. This lofty paradise is snow clad for most part of the year especially the winter months and makes a delightful destination to get away to in summer as we experienced the chill during the Feb visit.

We stayed here for a night and early morning next day we went to visit the monastery. It is a wonderful piece of architecture with beautiful painting clad walls and ceilings. We got to know a bit about the Buddhist culture, education, worship and some daily practices. The daily worship was accompanied by drum beats breaking the noise and peace of the environment. Mantras are chanted loudly. The monastery is a school as well where I thought ancient methods of teaching is employed.

Later in the day, we started our 134Km descend trip towards the forests of Nameri, bidding farewell to the gorgeous state of Arunachal Pradesh.
