This Orang Chariali National Park (a reserve park) covers an area of 78.81 sq km situated on the northern bank of the river Brahmaputra. The park is also known as mini Kaziranga in the Darrang District of Assam.
The Orang National Park, falls under Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot, is located at alluvial flood plains formed by the Bramhaputra and its tributaries.
In 1915 the British declared it as Orang Game Reserve. Later it came under the wild life section of the State Forest Department. The National Park was established as a wild life sanctuary in 1985. In 1992, the park was renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary. In 1999 the sanctuary was renamed as Orang National Park.
