With the dream backdrop of towering snow laden Mountains, almost 1000 years old Kedarnath temple presents an enchanting sight. The temple is magnificent in its style and architecture. The temple has a ‘garbha-griha’ for worship & mandaps for assemblies of pilgrims & visitors.

Kedarnath is amongst the holiest pilgrimage for the devout Hindu, located in the Uttaranchal state of India. It is one of the twelve jyotirling (linga of light) and one of the four sites in India's pilgrimage Char Dham. The most remote of the four Char Dham sites, Kedarnath is located in the Himalayas, about 3584 mts above sea level It is believed that after the battle at Kurukshetra Pandavas felt guilty of having killed their own kith & kin. Repented Pandavas needed the blessings of Lord Shiva. Lord shiva was not willing. He kept himself in hide at Kedarnath in the form of bull. Being followed by Pandavas, he dived into the ground leaving his hump on the surface. The remaining portions of God disappeared from Kedar and reappeared at four other places. The arms at Tungnath, the face at Rudranath, the stomach (nabhi) at Madmasheshwar and the locks with the head appeared at Kalpeshwar.

Besides its affiliation with Shiva, Kedarnath is also believed to be the site of Shankaracharya's samadhi (achievement of beatified afterlife).

Gandhi Sarovar, where the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed, is a 2 kms treck.12 kms from Gandhi Sarovar is the place from where river Mandakini originates.Vasukital is situated at a distance of 8 kms from Kedarnath. All these places have devined beauty.

ROAD

In a major relief, the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) has recommended an alternative 34km Kedarnath route to the Uttarakhand government.  Soon after the flash floods that claimed several lives, the state government had approached the Uttarkashi-based institute to help it find a route to the holy place as the traditional 14km Gaurikund-Kedarnath trekking route is in a dilapidated condition.

The first: the Sonprayag-Gaurikund-Rambara- Garud Chatti-Kedarnath route.

The second is the Chaumasi-Kham Bugyal-Reka Bugyal-Kedarnath route,

and the last is Chaumasi-Kham-Kedarnath trek route.
