About Kolakham, Rishyap, Lolegaon

Kolakham (6100 ft) is a vergin destination for nature lovers and adventurers.  Nestled in the Eastern Himalayas on the fringe of  Neora Valley National Park, Kolakham is a picturesque place. The village of Kolakham , 8 km from Lava,  offers majestic views of snow laden Himalaya. The towering peaks like Kanchenjhengha, Mt. Kharg, Kabroo, Talung, Khang-Chen-D-Zongha, Rathung, Simvo, Narsingh, Siniolchu and Pandim are clearly visible from here. Kolakham is a tiny village amidst immense natural treasure. It refuges a variety of wildlife, avifauna and rare plants.

Kolakham is really a paradise for bird lovers and adventure seeking tourists.

Nestles amidst the hidden hills of Neora Valley Rishyap is one of the best tousrists destinations of West Bengal. at the height of 8250 ft. About 10 kms away from lava and 28 kms away from Kalimpong. Jeepable roads reach until the last four Km(Up Hill). A magnificent view of Himalayas can be seen from here along with a view of the Nathula Pass, Tin Simana, Gangtok and Tibet Hills.

The 300 degree visible mountain ranges you can find from Rishyap/Rishop are (left to right) Mt.Kharg, Kokthang, Rathung, Kabroo (North, South, Dome and Fourth), Talung, Pandim, Khang-Chen-D-Zongha, Simvo, Narsingh, Siniolchu. An excellent view of Kanchenjungha from ‘Tiffin Dara’ in Rishop attracts tourists to this place. The deep silent forest of Pine, Birch, Fir and Orchids with soothing path following the chirps of birds is a very special of Rishyap. Southeast of Rishyap/Risop is the Lava monastery.

Perched at an altitude of 5500ft on Singalila range of Eastern Himalaya Lolegaon is on a forested ridge. As the entire region is annexed to Neora valley National Park, like Lava, Rishop and Kolakham this place also attracts nature lovers. Local name of this Lepcha village is Kaffer or the “Village of Joy”.

The route to Loleygaon is scenic with the change in vegetation from tropical deciduous to the wet apline trees of fir, pine and birch.

Lolegaon is also a home of  bird watchers and nature lovers. Widlife here includes endangered Himalayan species like black bear and mountain goats, various colourful birds and butterflies and rare orchids.
