North Sikkim is a district of the Indian state of Sikkim. Its district headquarters is Mangan nestled at 2,000 feet elevation. The landscape is mountainous with dense vegetation all the way up to the alpine altitude before thinning out to desert scrub towards the northern tundra. Numerous waterfalls astride the main road make the trip to this district extremely picturesque. Most of the people of the district reside near Mangan. Further north the elevation increases with the vegetation turning from temperate to alpine to tundra. Temperatures range from about 25° to below −40° in the extreme high reaches where the altitude is in excess of 6,000 meters. Kanchenjunga is the highest peak at over 8,000 m, straddling its western border with Nepal and can be seen clearly from the town of Singhik.

Gangtok-Yungtham-Gurudongmar Itinerary: 8 Days/7 Nights

Day 1: Pick up  and transfer to Gangtok
Pick up from Bagdogra Airport / NJP Station and transfer to Gangtok. Roam around M G Marg in the evening
Overnight in Gangtok.

Day 2:  Tsongo Lake and Baba Mandir Excursion
Start early in the morning and drive to Tsongo Lake (12000 ft/3600 m), a beautiful alpine lake close to Indo-China Border. Go for a Yak ride and proceed further to Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir.
The afternoon is free for personal activities.
Overnight in Gangtok.
Note: Only Indian Nationals are allowed for Tour to Nathula Pass (14000ft / 4200m) on China Border subject to prior permission.

Day 3: Gangtok to Lachen (130km)
Drive to Lachen in North Sikkim ( 9175 ft/2750 m).
See Singhik, Seven Sister Water Falls, Chungthang Confluence on the go.
Overnight in Lachen.

Day 4: Lachen to Gurudongmar Lake excursion
Start for the remote Nomad village of Thangu. Stop at Chopta Valley for a breathtaking alpine range. From Chopta Valley drive for another 30 km to Gurudongmar Lake, close to the Tibet Border, one of the highest and biggest freshwater lakes in Sikkim.
Back to Lachen for Lunch. After Lunch proceeds to Lachung (60 km).
See Chungthang Confluence and Vimala Water Falls on the way.
Overnight in Lachung.
Note: Only Indian citizens are allowed.

Day 5: Lachung to Yumthang Valley Excursion
Drive to Yumthang Valley (11925ft / 3575m), the “Valley of Flower” of Eastern Himalaya. Visit nearby Hot Spring.
Back to Lachung. Roam around Lachung village and Monastery.
Overnight in Lachung.

Day 6: Lachung to Gangtok
Depart from Lachung for Gangtok via Chungthang. Check-in at the hotel by late afternoon.
Overnight in Gangtok.

Day 7: Sightseeing in Gangtok
Visit Tashi Viewpoint, Hanuman Tok, Ganesh Tok, Enchey Monastery, Flower Exhibition Center, and Handicraft Center. Overnight in Gangtok

Day 8: Return to NJP Rly Station/Bagdogra Airport/Siliguri
Check out from hotel in Gangtok and drop to destination- Enroute visit Rumtek monastery

It also has religious importance. Apart from lakes, there are some important monasteries in this area too.
