Description
It serves as the Kurseong subdivision’s headquarters. Kurseong is located at a height of around 4864 feet and is surrounded by numerous Pine, Birch, and Fir trees.
Kurseong is a peaceful hill station located on the Siliguri-Darjeeling highway. Most of the year, the weather in Kurseong is milder and more pleasant. During the monsoon season, the rain-gods are especially kind, as the town receives days of nonstop rain. The rains are quite beneficial to the area’s vegetation and animals. Kurseong, or the ‘Land of White Orchids,’ takes its name from the abundance of flowers found on its steep slopes. Tea plantations, lush green forests, and snow-capped mountains make it difficult not to fall in love. The sky turns into a kaleidoscope of beautiful colours at sunset.
British relics, such as churches and schools, may be found throughout the town. This small hill village is a great alternative to Darjeeling for those looking for a more peaceful getaway.
Kurseong used to be known as Kharsang, which means “immovable beginnings of the early morning” in Nepali. In 1880, the first toy train came to Kuseong, drawing the attention of the rest of the world to this small town. The white orchid “Kurson Rip” is a common species in Kurseong.
