Padamchen Homestay

Padamchen Homestay

Staying at Padamchen can be a wonderful alternative if you are not used to the biting cold and snowfall but want to experience the gorgeous daybreak, fantastic vistas, and meandering roads and valleys of the Silk Route circuit. Padamchen provides some of the best views of Sikkim’s valleys, forests, and Himalayan foothills. Padamchen is home to a rich bird population, and bird watchers may enjoy spending a few days here. Padamchen also contains a historic Forest Resthouse. You may witness the hardwood floors, fireplace, verandah, and wooden furniture from the bygone days of the lonely Forest Officers and Sahibs who used to travel this route by visiting this forest rest house.
Padamchen (Phadamchen) is a small village in East Sikkim located 14 kilometres uphill from Rongli and four kilometres downhill from Dzuluk on the Young Husband Track (also known as the Old Silk Route). The temperature does not dip below freezing in the winter due to its placement on a slope, making it an ideal rest stop along the way. It has a better infrastructure than Dzuluk and offers an unobstructed view of the Tibetan plateau’s barren mountains.
Padamchen is nestled in the Himalayan temperate forest at an elevation of 8000 feet above sea level and is home to a large bird population. The Thambi View Point, which offers a 360° vista of the Kanchenjunga range, is 18 kilometres distant. The Old Silk Route’s zig-zag bends and loops, as well as the high-altitude scenery, may all be appreciated from the road.

Padamchen is an ideal starting point for exploring the other important Silk Route destinations.
A day drive from Padamchen may take you to the three-level zigzag roads of Zuluk, the tranquil Kupup Lake, Nathang Valley, and all of the other attractions on the Old Silk Route circuit. Thambi View Point, located at 11,200 feet and offering a breathtaking view of Kanchenjungha and Lungtung Dhupidara, is about an hour’s drive away after navigating the zig-zag roads.
How to Reach:
New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the nearest train station, while Bagdogra (IXB) is the nearest airport. Both are well accessible by an all-weather road. Taxis and cars may be taken straight from the airport and railway station through Sevok, Melli, Rangpo, and Pakyong; the same route can also be used to Gangtok (capital of Sikkim). From Rangpo, the route diverged to the right, passing through Pakyong. Shared jeeps go from Siliguri to Rangpo, where you may then take a vehicle or shared jeep to Padamchen. Padamchen is also accessible from Gangtok, at a distance of roughly 90 kilometres.
